Strep Throat / Scarlet Fever |
|
Both of these
diseases are caused by streptococcus bacteria. Symptoms may include
sore throat, fever, beefy red throat, white patches on the tonsils,
headache, vomiting, muscular aches, enlarged lymph nodes, rash, and
malaise. These bacteria are spread through person to person contact
and airborne droplets from sneezing and coughing. A throat culture
is necessary for diagnosis of strep throat. The incidence of
strep/scarlet fever is highest in the winter. |
|
If your child has the above-mentioned symptoms, see your physician for
diagnosis and treatment. Strep infections can cause damage to the
heart and kidneys if proper treatment is not received. |
|
This information is offered so you may observe your child for symptoms and
obtain treatment to avoid complications. Remind your child to wash
their hands frequently, avoid sharing food and drinks with others, and
cover their mouths when sneezing or coughing. |
