Senior Class Advisement

This is a friendly reminder that Eastern's scholarship deadline is February 21st. Please tell your seniors that I will be at the McAlester Branch Campus on February 17th, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in the event anyone needs assistance with the online application. The kids don't typically need help but I still want to offer my support. They can call or simply drop in, I'll be here.

Please remind students they must complete the admission process before they can complete the scholarship application.

Admission Process:

Complete the online admission application,

Submit high school transcript

Submit ACT scores

Take the Accuplacer if needed (offered Monday - Thursday 9:00am -1:00pm)

Complete the FAFSA, if anyone needs help with that, pls call Nicole Kelley at KTC McAlester, on M/T/TH/F, 918-426-0940; and she is at Eastern/McAlester on Wednesday each week, 918-302-3607.

That's it. As I've told the students during our senior visit, (and I know you all tell them the same thing) even if they believe they are leaving the area and going to college elsewhere, it's still a good idea to apply for Eastern's scholarships.

Go to, click on Financial Aid and Scholarships tab, then choose Applying for Scholarships. Follow the instructions.

Seniors need to apply no matter what their plans may be today.  I would love to present scholarships to your eligible students in the near future.

Thank you for supporting Eastern OK State College.

My name is Ally Randels and I am a Graduate Assistant for Sooner Discovery and Start Sooner at the University of Oklahoma. I work closely with our OU Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator and we are reaching out to see if you would like us to visit your school this Spring and/or also give you some information on summer programs available to your students at the University of Oklahoma, as well as a scholarship opportunity for our Sooner Discovery program.

First, here is a little information on our two main programs:

Sooner Discovery is a summer concurrent enrollment program for rising high school juniors and seniors. During the course of a month, these students have the opportunity to take classes, live on campus, and participate in all OU has to offer. These students will take 5 hours of college credit, as well as live in college residence halls during the month of June, and truly experience what it is like to be a college student. Our dates for this program are June 7-July 2, 2020. You can find more information at

Start Sooner is our other program for incoming freshman to OU, and provides an early arrival to campus living, 6 hours of college credit, and the ability to explore OU before the fall semester begins. This is only provided for students who are going to OU as a freshman, and will allow them to acclimate to OU’s campus ahead of time. Our dates for this program are July 5-July 30, 2020. You can find more information at

As you all know, we also offer Concurrent Enrollment at OU for high school juniors and seniors to have the opportunity to take classes, online or on campus, in the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Boomer Sooner, Ally Randels Sooner Discovery Graduate Assistant Provost Office | The University of Oklahoma
